A Day at KAO

KAO’s teachers and students know that there are no shortcuts to academic success. Our extended school day, week, and year enable students to acquire the necessary academic knowledge and skills, and expose them to broad extracurricular experiences that will prepare them for competitive high schools and colleges. More time in the classroom also allows us to offer extended instruction in reading, writing, and math, which is essential for many of our students, who come to KAO at least two years behind.

• Extended school day: More time on task is central to the success of KAO students. Students attend school Monday from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• Extended school week: Students attend Saturday school to acquire extra help in areas that may need strengthening.
• Extended school year: Students attend school for two additional weeks every summer.
