Commitment to Excellence
At the beginning of every year, all KAO teachers, students, and parents must sign one of the following Commitment to Excellence forms below.
School's Commitment.
Without taking shortcuts, we commit to KIPP Academy of Opportunity in the following ways:
- We promise to provide a safe, college preparatory experience so that 100 percent of our students may choose their futures and change the world to build a better tomorrow.

Student's Commitment.
Without taking shortcuts, I commit to KIPP Academy of Opportunity in the following ways:
- I will always work, think, and behave the best way I know how, and I will always behave so as to protect the safety, interests, and rights of all individuals in the school and on field trips. Because of my decisions, I understand that my teammates and I will attend college, choose our futures, and change the world.
- I will arrive at KIPP every day by 7:30 am (Monday–Friday). I will also remain at KIPP until 5:00 pm (Monday-Thursday) and 1:00 pm on Friday. In addition, I will come to school at KIPP on Saturdays at 9:00 am and remain until 1:00 pm. I will also attend KIPP during summer school.
- I will participate in supplemental instruction opportunities that are recommended to me.
- I will do whatever it takes to learn.
- I will raise my hand and ask questions in class until I understand something.
- I will follow the KIPP Academy of Opportunity dress code.
- I will come to school every day prepared to learn.
- I will complete my homework every night. I will make sure my homework is best quality and that my parent/guardian signs my agenda.
- I will call my teachers when I have problems or questions.
- I will always act in a professional manner when speaking with someone at KIPP Academy of Opportunity.
- I will be honest about my actions and accept responsibility when I make mistakes.
- I will uphold the high expectations of KIPP Academy of Opportunity at all school related events on and off campus.
- I am responsible for my own behavior, and I will accept responsibility for my actions.
I understand that this is a long-term commitment. Regardless of how challenging my time at KIPP is, I will finish what I start. I understand that if these commitments are not met, I will receive consequences, including loss of KIPP privileges, earning “Ineligibility,” and possibly even removal from the school.

Teachers' Commitment.
Without taking shortcuts, we commit to KIPP Academy of Opportunity in the following ways:
- We will do whatever it takes to challenge our students to reach KIPP’s academic and character expectations while protecting the safety, interests, and rights of all individuals in the classroom, at school, and on all field trips.
- We will arrive at KIPP Academy of Opportunity every day by 7:00 am (Monday-Friday).
- We will come to KIPP Academy of Opportunity on appropriate Saturdays at 8:45 am and remain until 1:30 pm.
- We will teach and attend professional development during summer school sessions from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm.
- We will always teach in the best way we know how, and we will do whatever it takes for every single one of our students to learn.
- We will plan and execute rigorous lessons to prepare our students for success in high school, college, and in life.
- We will hold all of our students, parents, fellow staff members, and ourselves to KIPP Academy of Opportunity’s high expectations.
- We are committed to results.
- We will collaborate and plan with colleagues on a regular basis.
- We are committed to our own professional growth and constant learning. We will give each other feedback regularly and seek out professional development opportunities.
- We will make ourselves available to the questions, concerns, or suggestions of our parents through scheduled meetings and phone calls.
- We will make ourselves available to students, parents, and fellow staff members via phone in the evenings until 8:30 pm.
- We will regularly provide parents with updates on their children’s progress via paychecks, progress reports, and report cards.
- We will respect the rights and interests of everyone at KIPP Academy of Opportunity regardless of race, color, gender, handicap, age, religion, disability, lifestyle, sexual orientation, and national or ethnic origin to help promote a safe learning environment.
- We will always act in a professional manner when speaking with all people in our school community: fellow colleagues, parents, and students.
- We will strive to be the best teachers we can be, modeling excellence and taking no shortcuts in preparing our students for success in high school, college, and in life.
- We are responsible for our own behavior, and will accept responsibility for our own actions.
We understand that if we do not follow through on our promises, we may be terminated.

Parents'/Guardians' Commitment.
Without taking shortcuts, we commit to KIPP Academy of Opportunity in the following ways:
- We will ensure our child arrives at school before 7:30 am (Monday-Friday).
- We will make arrangements so our child can remain at KIPP Academy of Opportunity until 5:00 pm (Monday-Thursday) and 1:00 pm on Fridays.
- We will take advantage of supplemental instruction opportunities provided to our child by KIPP Academy of Opportunity.
- We will make arrangements for our child to come to KIPP Academy of Opportunity on appropriate Saturdays at 9:00 am and remain until 1:00 pm.
- We will ensure that our child attends the KIPP Academy of Opportunity summer school session every year.
- We will do all we can to support our child and the commitment he/she has made to attend KIPP Academy of Opportunity.
- We will partner with the teachers and staff of KIPP Academy of Opportunity to help our child excel in school, both academically and behaviorally.
- We will always help our child in the best way we know how, and we will do whatever it takes for him/her to learn.
- We will review our child’s homework every night, sign his/her agenda, and let him/her call a classmate or teacher (until 8:30 pm) if there is a question and/or problem with the homework.
- We will read carefully and sign (if necessary) all the papers the school sends home to us.
- We will always make ourselves available to our children and the school and address any concerns they may have. We will meet regularly with teachers to discuss our child’s progress.
- If our child is going to miss school, we will call the school by 7:30 am the morning of the absence.
- We will allow our child to go on KIPP Academy of Opportunity field trips.
- We will make sure our child follows the KIPP Academy of Opportunity dress code.
- We understand that our child needs to respect the rights and interests of everyone at KIPP Academy of Opportunity regardless of race, color, gender, handicap, age, religion, disability, lifestyle, sexual orientation, and national or ethnic origin to help promote a safe learning environment.
- We will always act in a professional manner when speaking with all people in our school community: KIPP Academy of Opportunity staff members, fellow parents, and students.
- We will help our child prepare for high school, college, and life by supporting him/her and encouraging him/her to adhere to his/her “Commitment to Excellence.”
- We are responsible for our own behavior and will accept responsibility for our own actions.
- We are responsible for the behavior of our child.
We understand that this is a long-term commitment. We understand that if all these commitments are not met, our child will receive consequences, including loss of privileges, earning “Ineligibility,” and possibly even removal from the school.
