I WITNESSED HISTORY!!!!!

January 20, 2009

The crowd waiting for the Inauguration to begin today.

Today I witnessed history! I woke up at 3:30 am to get to the Inaguration. There was a long line when we got there. There was pushing and shoving. We had to walk at least four blocks and take two metro trains. When we got there it was very cold and dark outside. The metro train wasn't as crowded like I thought it was going to be. We were packed when we got there. When we finally got in, it was still cold, but most of all I was happy that I get to actually be standing at the Inauguration.

I was excited that I could see the actual Capitol and I was also able to hear the Inauguration. We were in the lines for at least four hours to get in. We went through security and they searched our pockets. I saw Barack Obama drive up in his limousine on his way to being sworn!

I also heard his speech and I heard him get sworn in along after Vice President Joe Biden. It is cool to be able to say that I was there. If I could, I would tell Barack Obama and Joe Biden congratulations.

Yesterday, we went on the Chocolate City tour. It was about the black history of Washington, DC and even told us about black slaves that had been raped and killed. They were also sold to white masters. It was very interesting to go on this tour the day before the Inauguration of our first Black President!!!

I was also in Washington for the inauguration and considered it to be an experience of a lifetime. I work with your Granny at the Inglewood Courthouse which I hope you and your classmates will visit at some time. I enjoyed reading your blog and I think it was wonderful that you had this experience early in your life and hope you have been inspired to continue achieving in school so that some day I might be able to attend your inauguration.

Bria, you can tell the President congratulations. Do so through your actions by living your life according to the words you heard today. - Mr. Diaz
