Welcome to Sixth Grade English Language Arts (ELA)!
KAO 6th graders are pushing themselves to become thoughtful readers.
Our lessons are all based on the goal of mastering the California State Standards (for a comprehensive listing of state standards, visit: http://www.cde.ca.gov) while developing into masterful thinkers and readers. We will focus on practicing the skills that have been proven to be the top strategies for increasing reading comprehension.
Our learning this year will be centered on seven major themes:
1) What is a thoughtful reader? (CBM October 7th/8th)
2) Friendship and Loyalty (CBM November 11th/12th)
3) War and Peace (CBM December 16th/17th)
4) Survival and Self-Reliance (CBM February 3rd/4th)
5) Escaping Reality (CBM March 10th/11th)
6) Coming of Age (CBM April 21st/22nd)
7) Making Choices
