I survived my second day in Washington, DC and I'm loving it

Today we learned a copious amount of information about many places in Washington, DC. I would like to tell you all about my learning experiences. It all began when we took our tour of Georgetown University's campus. We learned about so many urban legends of Georgetown. For example we learned about how you are not supposed to step on the Georgetown seal because you will not graduate in four years. Another urban legend we learned about was that every senior should have to swim in the water fountain before graduating. We also learned about a building called Healy Hall. It is called Healy Hall after the first African American president in Georgetown. Another fun fact we learned about in Georgetown is that they want the best students at their school and they will pay what ever is necessary to get you in their school.

When we were outside the United States capitol we were all talking about what the different buildings were and what people did there. For instance, we learned that in the US Capitol otherwise known as Capitol Hill the Senate and the House of Representatives decide what laws to create and enforce. In the Supreme Court, they declare laws unconstitutional if they do not agree with them. Also people who go to court and disagree with the judge’s decision in their own state, can go to the Supreme Court and change that. Another wonderful place we learned about was the Library of Congress. The Library of Congress is where there are the books of law and national archives.

Finally the last place we went to and learned lots about was the Air and Space Museum. We started by going on a presentation about astronauts and what they eat, how they take showers, and how they build the space station. During the presentation I learned tons of information. For example we learned about how the astronauts live in a space station for about six months at a time. We also learned about how close the space station is to earth and how far it was from the moon. Another enjoyable fact we learned about is that many countries help to build the space station together. Another fun fact is how they sleep and use the bathroom. For instance, when sleeping the astronauts have to sleep standing up against the space station wall.

This concludes my second day of leadership and learning in Washington, DC. Please come and read my third blog to see what kind of learning we do tomorrow.

<![endif]-->

After so many hours of traveling we finally arrived home and fed my tummy some food. I would like to tell you all about my first day in Washington, DC. It all began when we got on the plane in Los Angeles at 7:30am. I was up very early this morning, earlier than on a regular school day.

There were lots of fun games and wonderful TV channels. I played lots of exciting games throughout the wonderful flight. When we arrived at Virginia, two wonderful ladies commented to my friend Kaila and I about how cold it would be throughout the whole week. They told us to keep ourselves warm and to be careful at the Inauguration because there would be tons of excited people.

When we finally got off the plane we got on an enjoyable tram. The tram was very fun and we saw most of the runway where the planes land. When we got off the tram we went to grab our luggage. After grabbing our luggage we finally revealed ourselves to the cold weather outside. The weather outside was freezing! My entire body felt numb.

When our bus arrived we got on so we could go to the Metro station. When we were riding on the bus we were asked by so many people about how we made the trip and who sponsored us. Although we worked hard on our essays we really would not be here if it were not for Virgin America. I would really like to thank Virgin America for making our dream of being able to attend Barack Obama's Inauguration a reality. When we arrived at the metro station, Mr. Guidera kindly bought all of us Metro passes. The ride on the Metro was very exciting. We stepped out of the Metro and arrived at the bus stop. We missed the bus for being four minutes late, so we decided to walk from the bus stop to Mr. Guidera's relative, Ms. Mary. It was a mile long walk. Finally when we arrived at Ms. Mary's house we organized our things and ate pizza and pasta.

Since eating we've all been washing dishes, organizing the living room, and and writing.

This was my first day in Washington, DC. Please come back and read about the rest of my trip here to find out what we've been doing.
