Oobleck!

Just like Earth's mantle, oobleck has properties of both a solid and a liquid. Make some oobleck and observe its properties to gain a better understanding of the properties of the mantle.

Materials:

     2 cups corn starch          1 cup water

Procedure:

Mix corn starch and water together in a container.

Observe what happens when you:

     tap the oobleck quickly

     press on the oobleck slowly

     try to stir the oobleck quickly

     try to stir the oobleck slowly

     try to pick the oobleck up

     can you make a ball out of oobleck?

Clean Up:

Be sure no oobleck goes down the sink! Corn starch will clog pipes! Use lots of water to be sure all corn starch dissolves.
