Growth.

Students typically enroll in our middle schools, KIPP Academy of Opportunity and KIPP LA Prep, performing two to three years below grade level. After four years with KIPP LA, these student make dramatic gains across all subjects, as measured by the SAT-10, a nationally-administered test.

Comparative Performance.

KIPP LA students consistently outperform their peers across Los Angeles on the California Standards Tests. According to the 2009 Academic Performance Index, which measures the performance of California schools based on how their students perform on these tests, KIPP LA’s middle schools were ranked among the top 20 percent of middle schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District. KIPP LA Prep earned the seventh highest API score of all district middle schools, and each school bested the performance of all its neighboring public middle schools. The API scale ranges from 200 to 1000.

At KIPP Raíces Academy, KIPP LA’s first elementary school, the founding class of kindergarteners showed impressive mastery of all subjects by the end of the 2008-09 school year, as measured by the national SAT-10 test, which compared students’ performance to both kindergarteners and first graders.
