Commitment to Excellence

Teacher/Principal Commitment.

We will fully commit to the KIPP Comienza school community in the following ways:

  • We will do whatever it takes to teach the academic skills, cultivate the character traits, provide the learning experiences and forge the community relationships needed for our students to thrive in middle school, high school, college and life.
  • We will be available to parents and students by phone and in person.
  • We will arrive by 7:30am and work hard until 4:30pm each day.
  • We will participate fully in grade-level and staff development meetings.
  • We will teach Summer School and attend professional development sessions during the summer.
  • We will live and teach the values of KIPP Comienza Community Prep every day.
  • We will work purposefully and intentionally to meet our professional and student achievement goals and outcomes.

We understand that not fulfilling these commitments will result in consequences, including possible release from duties.

Parent/Guardian Commitment.

We will fully commit to the KIPP Comienza school community in the following ways:

  • We will help our child in the best way we know how and will do whatever it takes to support him/her in learning the academic skills, the character traits and participating in the learning experiences needed for our him/her to thrive in middle school, high school, college and life.
  • Every night, we will read with our child and carefully check all papers s/he brings home including homework.
  • We will call the teacher if we have a question or concern about the homework in order to complete all assignments.
  • We will make ourselves available to our children and the school in order to address any concerns.
  • We will give permission to and make sure our student attends KIPP Comienza everyday and all field trips. If our child is going to miss school, we will notify the teacher as soon as possible.
  • We give permission for our child to participate in all supplemental instruction as needed.*
  • We give permission for our child to participate in enrichment or supplemental instruction occurring on Saturdays.**
  • We give permission for our child to attend all of Summer School session before the school year commences.
  • We will make sure our child follows the KIPP Comienza dress code.
  • We understand our child must follow the KIPP Comienza rules and values in order to protect the safety, interests, and rights of all individuals in the school. We will be responsible for the behavior and actions of our child.
  • We will make sure that our child arrives at KIPP Comienza everyday prepared to learn by 8am Monday through Friday and stays throughout the instructional day, including supplemental instruction opportunities.
  • We will attend and participate in all mandatory meetings and conferences.

We understand that not fulfilling these commitments will result in consequences including loss of privileges for my child and possibly loss of placement for my child at the school.

Student Commitment.

I will fully commit to the KIPP Comienza community in the following ways:

  • I will always come to school prepared to work hard, make good choices and live the KIPP Comienza values. I will do whatever it takes for me and my fellow schoolmates learn and become leaders.
  • I will always try my best when completing my homework every night and my class work every day. I will ask for help when I have a problem.
  • I will follow the KIPP Comienza dress code.
  • I will attend KIPP Comienza summer school and all mandatory supplemental instructional opportunities.
  • I will arrive and be prepared to learn at KIPP Comienza everyday by 8am Monday through Friday.
  • I will be responsible for my own behavior and choices.

I understand that not fulfilling these commitments will result in receiving consequences, including losing privileges and possibly losing my placement at KIPP Comienza Community Prep.

*Participation in instruction is not compulsory, but is an important part of KIPP’s Commitment to Excellence. If you do not wish for your student to participate, please inform the school principal by calling 323.907.9262.
**If your child is unable to attend a Saturday school program for religious reasons, please notify KIPP Comienza Community Prep so that other accommodations can be made.
