Senator Bria had a very busy day!!!!!
January 21, 2009
Today was a very busy day, we went four different places. The first place we went to was Rayburn Congressional Offices. We did a mock confirmation hearing in the Education and Labor Committee room with Representative McKeon. McKeon is pretty much mostly about education and students going to school as early as possible. Also he wants to make sure students get a good education. We got to ask Representative McKeon questions. At the beginning when we first got there he asked us a couple of questions. We all had great questions! We all had fun pretending to be Representatives.
The second place we went was to Episcopal High School. Episcopal is a boarding school in Alexandria Virginia. Episcopal was very enjoyable. My tour guide's name was Carly. She showed the fifth and sixth graders around the school. When I get home I will tell my parents about Episcopal because I'd either like to find a school like it in LA, or maybe think about coming out here for high school.
After we left from Episcopal High School we went to the Crime and Punishment Museum. The first thing we did at the Crime and Punishment Museum was to find out which suspect matches the finger and shoe prints in a CSI Lab. This lab is where they film America's Most Wanted every week. We also made the shoe print dry up and get hard. We then went up stairs to solve a crime, it was very challenging. However I still had fun!!
Next, we met up with the founder of Lovecafe and also the founder of Cakelove. He told us how he quit being a lawyer after two years to start his business. He has six Cakeloves around the area and one Lovecafe (which is only in Washington, D.C.). He told us a lot about his self. We also ate dinner at Lovecafe and had desert there too. We had CATS time there and we also gave him praise.
I had lots of fun while being very busy today.

I WITNESSED HISTORY!!!!!
January 20, 2009
The crowd waiting for the Inauguration to begin today.
Today I witnessed history! I woke up at 3:30 am to get to the Inaguration. There was a long line when we got there. There was pushing and shoving. We had to walk at least four blocks and take two metro trains. When we got there it was very cold and dark outside. The metro train wasn't as crowded like I thought it was going to be. We were packed when we got there. When we finally got in, it was still cold, but most of all I was happy that I get to actually be standing at the Inauguration.
I was excited that I could see the actual Capitol and I was also able to hear the Inauguration. We were in the lines for at least four hours to get in. We went through security and they searched our pockets. I saw Barack Obama drive up in his limousine on his way to being sworn!
I also heard his speech and I heard him get sworn in along after Vice President Joe Biden. It is cool to be able to say that I was there. If I could, I would tell Barack Obama and Joe Biden congratulations.
Yesterday, we went on the Chocolate City tour. It was about the black history of Washington, DC and even told us about black slaves that had been raped and killed. They were also sold to white masters. It was very interesting to go on this tour the day before the Inauguration of our first Black President!!!

This is me and the 11 other KIPPsters standing behind the US Capitol.
Today, a lot of people were saying that yesterday was colder than today. However I disagree. It was really cold today to me, I can honestly say I couldn't feel my fingers at all. You don't even know how much it hurt.
Today we woke up bright and early so some of us could take showers and write blogs. We all made our lunch and ate breakfast. For breakfast, Coach Cadres made oatmeal. She also had sliced banana, walnuts, and GOLD sugar. She made each KIPPster put at least a little bit of bananas and walnuts in our oatmeal. I got a little bit of milk put into my cereal too.
We next walked to Georgetown University. A lady that goes to Georgetown University showed us around. Her name was Rachel. She decided to be our tour guide for the day. She is part of the blue and grey society. Those colors meant that they were neutral during the civil war. She showed us the food court. We also saw Healy Hall. They had lots of traditions. Two of them stood out the most to me. One was to not step on the seal on the ground, walk around it. People were told that if you step on it you would have to stay in school for more years than you're supposed to.
Also, we went to the U.S. Capitol. I was very excited to be standing where the 250,000 people will be seated watching Obama being sworn in. It was so empty on the Mall compared to how many people will be there on that morning.
We saw the Supreme Court and we also saw the Library of Congress. Next we went to the Air and Space Museum. We took lots of pictures and had lots of fun. When we got back at the house we all sat down, because we were tired from all that walking.

'B' is for Barack
January 16, 2009
After one hour of flying, I was tired already. I thought to myself that I have five more hours of flight. I felt nervous and sad at the same time. I was nervous about how I had to leave on a six hour flight. I was sad about leaving my family. I was also happy! I was happy that I get to experience going to Washington D.C. for the Inauguration.
Today, after we (meaning the four adults and the eleven other students also going to the Inauguration) got out of the airplane we took a tram to go and get our luggage. Then my principal, Mr. Guidera got us each a Metro card. We next got into a Metro train. We were in the train for at least half an hour, riding on two trains. This is my first time being on a train! The trains were going very fast. We got on the Blue line and the Red line.
On the second train which I think was the Red line, a student fell back because the train was going so fast. Since she fell towards me I also fell and I was laughing along with a few other people who were laughing. My backpack and a few other things that were attached to me were so heavy I couldn't get up by myself. I hope she has learned her lesson on keeping her balance.
I experienced extremely cold weather. I also experienced my fingers being numb.
I am so thankful to Virgin America. The assistants were very nice, calm, and very patient.
I am very excited about going to Georgetown University and the US Capital tomorrow. We will have lots of fun and learn a lot about leadership.
