Yes We Can, a Documentry on Obama
January 20, 2009
Me standing in line around 5:00 am this morning!
Today I recieved the opportunity to witness history. Barack Obama is now the President of the United States! It was a population of about 1.8 million people at the inauguration. Yes of course it was cold, but no one proceeded home before it was over. We woke up at 3:30 in the morning; arrived at 4:45 in the morning. We had to wait in the longest line it took over 4 hours. But it was definitely worth it.
Ironicly I was so excited that it completely wiped out the tiredness. I couldn't see anything because of the crowd, but luckily I had my digital camera. I was able to get the limo's passing by on the way to President Obama being sworn. They were beautiful, bullet proof, and bomb proof. Obama and Bush rode in the same limo "Former and Elected Presidents."
Obama's speech was heart warming and speaking the truth even though it might hurt a little. His speech was one of the most powerful speeches ever. He told all of the Americans in the area and waching at home that, we are here, we need to help make are country a better place, that we have to join each other as a nation and not different colors.
I felt as if I was going to cry hearing this speech really opened my eyes to a new world. Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream, we all know that he is up there saying, "Yes We Can and Yes We Did!"

California Knows How to Party
January 17, 2009
Georgetown University. Healy Hall. Named after the first black president of the university.
Today the temperature was in the teens. We had to walk to Georgetown University. I'm guessing it was about a 5 block walk. Georgetown was built in the 1800s. And still furnishes what we call ancient monuments and buildings. Are tour guide was a sophomore at the university. Rachel took time out of her day, let me remind you it's a Saturday. We saw one of the ancient buildings Healy Hall, this famous building was named after Pactric Healy, he was the first black president of the university.
On the metro bus we couldn't help but notice the hundreds of D.C. citizens with Obama t-shirts. Later on: we got off of the metro, walked a block to find out that our reservations were sold since we showed up late to tour the Capital. Okay so anyway, I got to see the Capitol building. For clarity, it is located next to the Library of Congress. So no one will mistake it for the White House (Bria). On the other side of the Capitol building we took pictures next to where Obama will be giving his speech and be sworn in Tuesday. You know it takes a real leader to stand in front of 250,000 people in chairs and three million more on the mall. He will reassure them all that they made the right decision.
At the Air and Space Museum I learned that it takes 5 million dollars to get the material to make a space suit. Astronauts carry two bags with them. One connects to the suit as it carries the water supply, the other doesn't connect, it’s known as a jet pack. Every space station has a leader who connects to the outside world. And tells of their condition.
Finally, I also learned that an African American Women (a registered nurse), purchased the first air craft for the Challenger Air planes Association.

Washington, D.C. Comes to Me
January 16, 2009
When I arrived at the airport I was so excited. I just really couldn't wait. At first I was tired, but then I woke up with all the excitement. As we walked to the lobby I saw one of the planes. As soon as I saw it, I began to become nervous. Elexis, and Erin reassured me that once I got on it, the nervousness would slide right off of me. As we began to write in the terminal, some flight attendents walked by and said I wish they were on our flight. It made me feel like I was right at home because I'm the baby.
When we got on the plane they were right I wasn't scared or nervous anymore. At sometimes it felt like we were falling! Basically every other 15 minutes we would check the Google map on our screens to see how many miles until we would arrive in D.C. Every time we checked we found out we were nowhere near it! In the back of the seats there were televisions. We had the chance to watch tv, muisic videos, and listen to music. Virgin America has to be the best airline that I know of. The flight attendents were so nice. And got you every thing you ordered in a low amount of time.
When we got off of the plane we caught a bus, then a tram twice actuallly, and then we walked to Mary's house. Which was a long 5 blocks. As soon as we got into the house the first pesron I saw was Mary. And the I saw the 2 dogs. They reminded me so much of my dog Kendow. Their cat really liked me.
For dinner we had pizza and pasta. The pizza was circular. The pizza's made differently here. It's made with the cheese on the bottom of the sauce. Even with that big differences it tasted the same. So I felt llike I was at home, which was good for me, since I didn't get home sick.
Check back and read tomorrow about my learning in DC!
