A fun day

January 21, 2009

Today when I woke up I was very tired because I was standing up for seven hours the day before. So when we left the house we went to a mock confirmation hearing at the Rayburn offices for Congress. I really liked it because they had microphones on each desk and they were loud. We asked such good questions that representative McKeon had to ask the other staff members for help.  When we left there, there were these women and men from the Airforce and they saluted to me, and I saluted back.

After we left the building we went to the Episcopal Boarding High School. Our tour guide was walking too fast!  They had a two percent attrition rate last year, very low. A lot of kids do art and they look very nice. There were pictures of flowers, rooms, and people.  Then we left the boarding school.

We were on our way to the Crime & Punishment Museum.  We got to see the studio where they film America's Most Wanted. We had to do an investigation on finger prints.e had this brush but, there weren't bristles but the metal was metal and there were black powder that you rub over the finger print. After we got out of the CSI investigation I got on this game where you were a police driver and you can turn on the siren and pull the driver over.

After we left the Crime & Punishment Museum we went to Lovecafe. We interviewed Mr. Brown and how he went to law school but, he did not like being a lawyer. He now has six Cakelove bakeries and one Lovecafe.  I ate a bacon and lettuce sandwhich. After we ate, we all had a cupcake that was so good. Then after we ate our cupcake, we walked home and relaxed.

So Busy!

January 18, 2009

Today we walked to the Metro center to go to the Holocaust Museum. Once we got in we had to pick our person and read about him. My person's name was Miso Vogel. He was apart of the Holocaust. When he was on his way to a concentration camp he escaped when the U.S. Army were coming to save them. We also learned that the Nazis made a bonfire out of books that talked about Jews. Adolf Hitler was a good leader for the evil because he persuaded the Germans that anyone who was not considered white should not be on this earth.

When we left the museum outside there were about 12 Obama stands lined up. When we were going to the Metro Station there were thousands of people in the station. When we boarded the train I was squished because people did not want to wait for the next train.

When we got out of the Metro station we were waiting for our bus but, the bus was going to take 30 minutes. So my DC family decided to go eat Mexican food at Guapo's. The food was so good. When we left Guapo's we had to walk a mile in the 30 degree weather. I didn't think it was so bad.

I hope you read my blog tomorrow.

Malik, what have you learned about the power of words - from both Hitler and President Obama? What do you think the gathering in D.C. says about our nation and it's people? Is there any similarity between the two leaders in your opinion? I look forward to reading more about your time in our nation's capitol. Ms. Marie

A Great Time

January 17, 2009

This is where we went today. We will see Obama sworn in here Tuesday and also get to see a very important speech.

This is where we went today. We will see Obama sworn in here Tuesday and also get to see a very important speech.

After being here for the second day, I have had a great time! Today we went to Georgetown University and the tour guide showed us around the school. We first looked into a classroom that had a projector on the ceiling, but the classroom looked very old. We also learned what a Hoya is; it means "what rocks." We also saw this eagle that was made out of tiles in front of Healy Hall. There is a myth that if you stand on it, you will not be able to graduate in four years. So you will have to stay at college for another year at least.

After leaving Georgetown we went to Capital Hill and we saw the US Capital Building where they make laws. We also saw the Supreme Court were they test the laws. For example, recently people in California voted yes so gay people won't get married (prop 8). If you are gay, you can take it to the Supreme Court and they will deal with it, maybe they will find the law to be unconstitutional.

The last place we went to is the Air and Space Museum. I loved it because I got to see all types of old planes. I thought some of the planes looked fake or like models because the frames looked like plastic. We also got to look at all the instruments that are in a plane. Being there was especially great for me because I am thinking about being a pilot!

Hey, I made it to DC!

January 16, 2009

After being on a plane for so long I finally made it to DC.  Today I woke up early to go to the LAX Airport. I got on a Virgin America plane, that was so nice. I thought that the airplane was so awesome because they had video games, tv, movies, music, and a food system where you can order lots of snacks and drinks from your screen.

I was a little scared when the plane had turbulence, after all this is my first time on a plane. At some points the plane felt like it was falling out of the sky. After all of the turbulence was done we made it to the Dulles Airport (IAD) safely.

After getting off the air plane we got on this tram that took us to get our luggage. After I got my luggage all 12 of my teammtes including four adults had to fit into a crowded bus with suitcases. We had to ride that crowded bus for about 40 minutes. I had to stand up the whole time! We all got off the bus and road the Metrorail. After that I had to walk in the 21 degree weather. My teammate was so cold I let her use my gloves.  We finally made it to the house and it was so warm. I filled up my stomach and I was allllllllllllllllllright!

Thank you Virgin America for giving my teammates and I 12 tickets that I bet cost a lot of money for this trip of a lifetime.

Check in on my blog tomorrow to read about all that I experience on leadership.
