Photo Release: Corporate Executives and local students decorate quilts and pillows aimed at comforting ill children at Children's Hospital Los Angeles

Students at KIPP LA Prep, “KIPPsters” work as a team to decorate quilts for patients at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
LOS ANGELES, CA – Facilitated through the work of the non-profit Soaringwords, BNY Mellon partnered with local charter school operator, KIPP LA Schools, to provide 50 children at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles with custom decorated quilts and pillows. BNY Mellon employee volunteers and KIPP students spent the morning working together to decorate these very special items.
KIPP LA Prep School Leader Angella Martinez expressed, “Our students are proud to be able to create inspirational messages of hope to share with patients at Children’s Hospital. This program aligns with KIPP’s belief in strong values that support each child and our community at large.”
Each year an estimated that 18% of all children in the U.S. suffer from chronic illness (Source: American Academy of Pediatrics). This means that over 22 million children, 70 million parents and siblings, 66 million grandparents, 132 million extended family members and 275 million neighbors, classmates, and friends all face the challenges of catastrophic illness.
